| Today marks the end of my first week in Ottawa. What a different city it is from Vancouver. Different in good ways and of course bad ways too.
The Good stuff...
- People are more laid back and very friendly...you can strike up a conversation with almost anyone here and they won't think you're weird
- It's a Pub culture here... I don't think there's a single club in this town...however, there are hundreds of pubs...which is nice because there is no cover, sometimes there's live music, and the beers are cheap
- University campus close by - lots of young people =)
- Heritage buildings are absolutely gorgeous!
The Not so Good stuff...
- Scenery is missing mountains and ocean, the Rideau canal just doesn't do it for me
- Tax is 15%
- Food and clothes are more expensive
So far, I've really enjoyed Ottawa. It's a nice change from Vancouver, but everyone keeps reminding me about the winters here...truth be told...I'm looking forward to a cold winter for once. I love the cold!! I'm sure when it arrives, i'll wish it were sunny again...but for now, I can't wait to have an actual white Christmas.
I haven't had too many problems with meeting people. I started a cooking group - basically me and 4 other friends get together and cook once a week. We try new recipes... and see how they turn out. Yesterday, we made a nice Salmon and Risotto dish. Oh it tasted so good.... yummm....
But of course, i'm missing my friends and family dearly =( |
